My mother was married in 1951.
One of the first things she bought as a married woman:
Her own Singer Sewing Machine.
That machine, in its oak cabinet has always been in my life.
Growing up my mother and godmother made ALL my clothes.
They also made all the home decor items such as
bedspreads, curtains and pillows.
I was a very well dressed little girl and couldn't wait
to learn how to sew myself!
Like most little ones, I started with doll clothes and moved on from there.
In high school I took FOUR years of Home Ec and loved every class!
Although I made some of my clothes,
my interest has always been in home decor and crafting.
Maybe it would have been different
if I'd had a daughter to sew cute little dresses for!
When I got married,
Mommy gave me her machine and
it's been in my craftroom and well used here on Lavender Hill!
Since my Monster got sick, however,
so many things have beenon the "back burner" around here.
Today, I dusted off my old friend.
I straightened up the drawers and
enjoyed the smell of the oak and the metal machine!
I have plans for a new cushion for the backyard swing,
a canopy for over the hottub made from drop clothes -
*thank you Pinterest*
And maybe, I'll even make myself a little sundress,
for old time's sake!
